Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reacts to Cristiano Ronaldo interview

Jamie Carragher named three pundits who he believes will support Cristiano Ronaldo amid the fall-out from his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

INTERVIEW EXCLUSIVE: The football star has had enough in “explosive” interview, according to the host.

Ronaldo said he feels ‘betrayed’ by Manchester United and he doesn’t respect manager Erik ten Hag during his two-part TV interview with Morgan.

It prompted a backlash from fans and commentators, while United today issued a fresh statement to say they had “initiated appropriate steps” in response.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher Tweeted: “99% of United fans will be on the side of ETH, which shows how badly Ronaldo has handled this.”

Carragher expanded on his original post by joking that fellow TV pundits Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Roy Keane will be in the ‘1%’ minority that back Ronaldo. The trio of ex-players supported him and the ways he has been treated throughout this season.

A reply to the tweet suggested 99% was a stretch, but Carragher simply referred to the supporters as being, “Ronaldo cranks!”

The Portugal international had his say in a two-part TalkTV interview, aired Wednesday and Thursday, as he prepares to fly to Qatar for his fifth, and most likely his last, World Cup. He said: “Yes, I felt betrayed and I felt like some people don’t want me here, not only this year but last year too.”

The player also revealed that he did not believe the club had progressed since the departure of manager Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
