Restless Wayne Rooney ignites bidding war between Barcelona and Chelsea for want-away Manchester United star

By Colin Rhodes

Restless Wayne Rooney may have unleashed a bidding war between Chelsea and Real Madrid as the alleged want-away striker’s future remains in doubt at Manchester United.

Rooney, 27, is expected to hold further talks with new United boss David Moyes in a bid to settle his future – but a number of clubs are monitoring events and are poised to make a bid.

Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be making room for a spot for the England star in his Chelsea squad should Moyes not be able to persuade Rooney to stay.

Meanwhile Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova is hoping to bolster his strike force – and Rooney could be the perfect partner for their latest signing, Brazilian wonderkid Naymar.

“Rooney is precisely the type of attacker that would fit perfectly into the system,” a Barcelona insider told The Sun.

“Defence starts from the front at Barca and Rooney works harder than anyone else. His first touch, control and vision are phenomenal and if he comes on the market then the club are certain to try to sign him.”
