Robin van Persie claims talking about their ‘feelings’ helped Man Utd put Leicester mauling behind them

Robin van Persie is positive that Manchester United will come back strong after the squad cleared the air following the Red Devils’ humiliating defeat to Leicester.

The 31-year-old netted his first goal of the season when United were mauled 5-3 by Leicester last Sunday.

Louis van Gaal’s men now face a stiff test against Sam Allardyce’s West Ham, who convincingly dispatched of Liverpool in their last outing.

And Van Persie revealed that he and his teammates had a frank, but constructive, meeting following the humiliating result.

“It’s the right way forward as you have to speak about the good things you do but also in the areas you can improve, which is what we did the next day,” Van Persie told MUTV.

“Everyone came in and we had a long meeting about the game. It was a really good meeting as everyone spoke up and shared their feelings.”

The Dutch forward had an injury-hit season last term, netting 18 times in all competitions as United slumped to a seventh place finish in the Premier League – 14 less than his tally in 2013/13.

Earlier this week the Van Persie’s former United teammate Rio Ferdinand, who left for pastures new this summer after 12 years in Manchester, claimed the striker had been affected the most by the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But van Persie is confident the team will soon return to winning ways, claiming that there is a positive feeling in the camp.

“We’ve had a good few sessions now and everyone’s feeling very positive now ahead of the game against West Ham,” he added.

“Everyone’s on the same page.”
