Vincent Kompany and Andy Burnham’s Tackle4MCR make first signing in bid to tackle homelessness

Vincent Kompany and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham’s fundraising campaign Tackle4MCR has its first official partner.

Workspace Design & Build have become the first official partner of the campaign, which donates all proceeds to the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s Homelessness fund.

The Mayor’s fund is focusing its efforts on ensuring that every rough sleeper has a bed every night of the week over this coming winter. Money raised by Tackle4MCR will play a key role in delivering this ambition.

Russel Davis, managing director at Workspace D&B, said: “We are extremely proud to become the first official partner of Tackle4MCR.

“Homelessness is an issue that we all need to get behind. We, like Vincent Kompany and Andy Burnham, are dedicated to helping the issue in Greater Manchester and could not be more supportive of this new campaign.

“We are looking forward to working with the team at Tackle4MCR over the next year and hope more partners will join us in the movement soon”

The fundraising campaign will span the full length of the football season, with 3 main initiatives over the year. These include a gala dinner on 3rd February 2019, a participative city-wide #FootballFriday campaign in spring 2019, culminating in a testimonial gala at the Etihad Stadium following the close of the 2018/19 season courtesy of Manchester City.

Kompany said after the launch of the campaign: “I’ve received much from Manchester: a great career at the highest level, unconditional support from the fans through thick and thin, a lovely family and so much more to be grateful for.

“Over the past decade I’ve been lucky to have witnessed and played a part in Manchester City’s rise as a club and a brand. This has also run parallel alongside the rise of a whole region.

“However, with this spectacular rise, comes a very visible downside: more and more people are left out of and have no access to the benefits of the rapid development, often leaving them no choice but to end up on the streets.”

Burnham kick-started the campaign by donating 15% of his salary to the fund and will continue to do so every month.
