GMP release image of man after sex assault on woman on Manchester bus

Greater Manchester Police have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to after a woman was harassed and sexually assaulted on a Manchester bus back in March.

On March 31, at around 5pm, the woman was travelling through Salford into Manchester on the number 8 bus when she was approached by a man who after beginning to speak to her, tried to kiss her.

At Shudehill, the woman got off the bus and walked to work in the Northern Quarter, but the man followed her and had to be escorted off the premises.

Then on 7 April the man approached her again on the same bus route, and after she ignored him he got off, only to return to her work later that evening.

Between these two incidents, the man also went back to the woman’s place of work.

Now police have released an image of the man, in the hope that they can help to identify him.

Police Constable Gareth Bishop, from GMP’s Salford Borough, said: “Luckily no serious harm came to this woman, but she was left terrified by the incident”.

“Incidents like this leave people scared to go about their daily business, and no one should be made to feel that way”.

“We have now managed to find a picture of a man we would like to speak to in connection with this incident”.

“Anyone who recognises him, or may remember witnessing these incidents is asked to get in touch with police as soon as possible”.

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting incident number 1855 of 8 April 2017.

Alternatively, the can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
