After Manchester United have unveiled David Moyes as their new manager on a six-year deal, MM looks at the reaction towards the Glaswegian’s appointment.

Many players, both current and former, took to their own Twitter accounts and websites to give their reaction to Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor

Former  goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel told United’s official website: “He's Scottish, he's made from the same cloth as Sir Alex and he's the kind of guy you look at and think ‘stability’.”

Former United winger Mickey Thomas spared a kind tweet towards Moyes: “Want to wish David Moyes all the best at Manchester United. Didn't win anything at Everton but did a great job.”

Brian Greenhoff, who made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils, tweeted: “Welcome David Moyes to the biggest club in the world. You will now find out how big it is. Good luck.”

Everton’s Marouane Fellaini kept it short and sweet: “Many thanks coach.”

Ronnie Irani, a United fan and former Essex all-rounder, tweeted: “Wow! 6-year-deal for David Moyes great effort. Good luck to him as in my experience he is a decent bloke.”

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker made the most of his 140 characters: “I think Moyes is a very sound choice and probably the least disruptive. A huge challenge though, and a very different job.”

Toffees captain Phil Jagielka said on Everton’s official Twitter account: “Like the rest of the squad I have nothing but the highest regard for David Moyes. He is a first class operator.

“On behalf of the players I would like to place on record my thanks for the work he has done improving the team.

“Once the season is over we can collectively look forward to ensure we build on the positive work of the past few years.”

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright tweeted: “Congratulations to David Moyes on his appointment as manager of Manchester united. Great appointment.”
