Video: Take That’s Mark Owen plays surprise Manchester set at Northern Quarter pub The Castle Hotel

By Glen Keogh

Two songs played during the surprise performance by Take That’s Mark Owen at The Castle Hotel were filmed by one lucky fan who happened to be at the pub.

Mark turned up at 9pm on Tuesday to play an impromptu five-song set after phoning just hours before to ask if the venue was free.

MM revealed the singer’s surprise set yesterday, and you can read our full story here.

Liam Walsh, from Manchester, was as surprised as anyone else when he found out Mark was set to play.

“I think people were genuinely shocked but it was a fantastic atmosphere,” he said. Some women came in and they were absolutely gobsmacked!”

He captured Mark’s new solo track Stars, and Take That hit Shine on camera, to the delight of fans nationwide who missed out on the secret show.

Mark’s set in front of around 20 people was a warm-up for his solo show at the Ritz in Manchester on June 17.

The Castle Hotel has had its fair share of impromptu performances, but Mark’s will go down as one of the most unexpected.

It’s one of the oldest pubs in Manchester, starting life as a boozer in 1776 under the name The Crown and Sceptre.
