Behind-the-scenes: Stunning pictures give glimpse into Northern Ballet’s sensual new show Casanova

Northern Ballet’s new production Casanova is gearing up to be one of the most sensual shows of the year.

The touring company – based in Leeds – is bringing the titillating story to the stage at The Lowry in Salford from Tuesday.

Ahead of the string of dates, a series of intimate images have been released giving a glimpse into the cast, crew and choreography.

The black and white snaps feature the dancers as they sit backstage getting into make-up and costume.

SHOWTIME: The production is coming to The Lowry

There are some intricate designs to be seen, including elegant headpieces and masks.

Perhaps most interesting of all, many pictures capture the sheer concentration on the face of those involved as they get into character ahead of the opening curtain.

Another behind-the-scenes image shows dancer Javier Torres as he takes a phone call while waiting for showtime.

INTIMATE: It’s a side to theatre people don’t usually see

Meanwhile, other shots show the ballerinos and ballerinas as they perform breath-taking manoeuvres on stage.

The highly-anticipated production is part of Northern Ballet’s World Première Tour.

It tells the true story of Casanova – a man commonly known as history’s most notorious lover.

INTRICATE: The costumes really set the scene

Set in 18th century Venice, the plot details his long list of escapades that ultimately led to scandal, imprisonment and exile.

In fact, Casanova’s numerous exploits were so infamous that people are still talking about him to this very day.

BALLET: The performance is sure to mesmerise

Northern Ballet’s show has award-winning choreographer Kenneth Tindall at the helm.

Amongst his growing accolades includes a nod for Best Classical Choreography and the Emerging Artist Award at the 2015 National Dance Awards.

The production will be set to an original score by modern classical, film and television composer Kerry Muzzey, played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

SENSUAL: The plot is a little raunchy at times

Casanova is the first of an unprecedented three full-length World Premières to be held by Northern Ballet in 2017.

It will be followed The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and The Little Mermaid later this year.

Northern Ballet’s Casanova will be on at The Lowry from Wednesday, May 3 to Saturday, May 6. You can buy tickets HERE.
