One arrest made as ‘red tent’ refugee camp is forcibly removed from Albert Square

Police and council officers evicted 40 refugees from the encampment in Albert Square early this morning.

The so-called “red tent” camp formed around the statue of Prince Albert back in February after a court order removed them from St Peter’s Square just around the corner.

Manchester City Council say the most recent trespass notice was put in place in order that construction can continue on the Town Hall regeneration project.
