Watch: A journey through Persian culture in the heart of Manchester

A group of Iranian artists transcends the borders by performing a musical love story in the heart of Manchester.

Tiara Theatre group started working on Sirvan’s play at the beginning of 2023 at Sahba Academy, a Persian cultural centre in Levenshulme.

The play delves into the story of a rural family suffering from poverty in the west of Iran, Kurdistan, where men have to work as Kolbars to provide for their families. Kolbars are illegal workers who carry heavy loads on their backs across the borders of Iran.

Sirvan also portrays the struggles and complexities that define the female experience in Iran. Through compelling storytelling, the performers show the various facets of women’s lives by addressing societal norms and expectations.

The play was performed in the Farsi language, with the performers using Kurdish accents skillfully while dancing and singing with the traditional Kurdish music.
