The Manchester restaurants cooking up a storm: Is your favourite eatery on the list?

Hospitality firm OpenTable have released a survey of Manchester’s restaurants, revealing the best “Neighbourhood Gems” where people can get top notch food and play a part in their community.

Top of the list is King Street’s Kala Bistro, followed by Salford’s Menagerie in second place.

The survey encourages habitants of Britain’s largest cities to support local businesses and restaurants, while handing out some brilliant suggestions of where to eat to experience something a little bit different.

Results reported Manchester is home to 31 different cuisines, and appeals to the vast amount of diverse communities in the city, so there is something for everyone.

Kala Bistro came out on top in the city.

King Street eatery Kala is a neighbourhood restaurant boasting a wide range of British bistro classics and a humble yet classy atmosphere.

The restaurant is adored by locals and was even before it opened, having a crowdfunding world record for the fastest fundraiser to reach £100,000 to its name.

Menagerie Restaurant and Bar

Salford’s Menagerie unsurprisingly made the list, coming in second. The ‘secret garden’ provides a unique experience that you are sure not to find anywhere else.

Offering private events and bottomless brunch on top of an eclectic menu that features spicy miso salmon and a cookie dough pie, Menagerie is a local favourite that you cannot ignore.

Escape to Freight Island

A favourite for students and lifetime Mancunians alike – Escape to Freight Island’s popularity was not downplayed in the survey.

A relaxed but exciting environment, Depot Mayfield’s iconic establishment merges live music and a diverse range of street food and cuisines from eighteen vendors.

If you’re looking for a fun and flavourful night, it’s definitely one to check out.

Hispi

From the same group as Kala, Hispi has a chic yet calming hold over Didsbury’s locals, regularly impressing with beautifully presented and deliciously British food.

A modern twist on tradition, Hispi serves a succulent confit duck leg and a pan-fried stone-bass fillet amongst it’s unique and comprehensive menu.

OpenTable revealed 40% of respondents in Manchester would put local eateries amongst the top three community spirit lifters, making these restaurants essential to Mancunians.
