Watch: Train strikes cause more cancellations and delays across the north west

Northern trains have been cancelled this week, due to industrial action.

All Northern Rail and TransPennine Express services were cancelled on Wednesday 31st January, with further disruption expected across the country.

Train drivers from ASLEF union are striking over pay and claim they have not had a pay rise since 2019.

The government decides how much train drivers are paid but in April 2023, ASLEF’s executive committee rejected 4% pay rises for two years in a row.

An ASLEF worker who wished to remain anonymous said: “The only weapon that we’ve got is to withdraw our labour, so that’s why the strikes take place. We don’t want to go on strike, we don’t want to disrupt the public. We don’t want to lose money either.”
