Woman threatens to jump from Manchester Arndale roof – trained police officers on scene

By Mancunian Matters staff

A woman is threatening to jump from the roof of Manchester Arndale.

Specially trained officers from Greater Manchester Police have been on scene since around 4.45pm trying to talk her down.

The area is cordoned off and some roads around the Arndale have been closed.

There are severe delays to the Metrolink as trams have been stopped from travelling down Market Street and High Street.

Despite the area being closed off, large crowds have gathered in the immediate vicinity.

Eye-witnesses have told MM that some passers-by are filming the incident on their phones and cameras.

A spokesman for Metrolink said: “Due to a police incident in the city centre we are currently unable to operate services between Victoria and Piccadilly.

“Metrolink apologise for the inconvenience this causes.”

Many Metrolink passengers are being let off the trams early and commuters are being advised to avoid the area.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: “Reminder: Due to a police incident on High St in the city centre services between Piccadilly and Victoria are currently suspended.”
