BBC comedian Lee Nelson due in court for sneaking on to pitch and warming up with Manchester City players

By Glen Keogh

A BBC television star who posed as a player and ran onto the pitch before a Manchester City football match is due to appear in court this morning.

Comedian Simon Brodkin, 35, who has his own show under the guise of alter-ego Lee Nelson, is charged with pitch encroachment under the Football Offences Act.

He was held by police after warming up alongside City stars ahead of their game against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday March 16.

Brodkin is the star and host of BBC3 series, Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show, however a BBC spokesman has said he was not filming for the broadcaster that day.

He will appear at North Liverpool Community Justice Centre.
