Pensioner scared to go out after violent robbery outside Middleton home – police release images of suspects

By Danielle Wainwright

Images were released today of two men suspected of cruelly attacking and robbing an elderly man outside his Middleton home in May.

The 68-year-old was confronted on Hollin Lane at about 12.25pm on May 29 by two men who attacked him from behind, dragged him to the floor and rifled through his pockets.

The robbers stole a large amount of cash and fled in a taxi. The victim did not suffer any lasting injuries but was badly shaken.

Detective Constable Mark Green said: “This man was cowardly attacked from behind and robbed pretty much on his own doorstep.

“Thankfully he did not suffer any major physical injuries but you can imagine he is very shaken up and nervous about going outside.”

Police have now released two CCTV stills of the men who are sought in connection with the attack.

DC Green said: “I want people to look very carefully at the two images we have released and if you think you recognise these two men we need to hear from you.

“The victim is a member of our community and I’m sure everyone living in this area will share the outrage we feel. If you do have information, please come forward and help us get justice for this man.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
