Arrest made after woman subjected to brutal gang rape at Gorton house party

By Danielle Wainwright

A suspected rapist who allegedly subjected a woman to a brutal sexual assault with several other men at a Gorton house party was arrested yesterday.

The victim was attacked and viciously raped in an upstairs bedroom of the party on Turner Street in the early hours of June 15.

The 22-year-old suspect from Openshaw has been released on bail until July 30, pending further police enquiries.

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This remains a complex inquiry due to the very nature of what happened.

“With that in mind, we are continuing our painstaking inquiries to piece together exactly what happened that night.

“We have already spoken to a number of people at the party and the full picture is beginning to emerge.

“However, if you were there or have any information – then I would urge you to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 1722 or Crimestoppers on 0888 555 111.
