Big turnout in Manchester Cathedral for Coronation live screening

Hundreds of people gathered in Manchester Cathedral today for a live screening of King Charles III’s Coronation.

Around 1,000 seats were laid out for the event with over 800 guests joining across the day.

Doors opened at 9:30am and attendees got to experience all the action live, from the build-up to the Coronation itself and the King’s Procession.

Upon entering, guests were given flags and a programme which included lyrics to hymns, the national anthem and a statement from the Very Revd Rogers Govender MBE, Dean of Manchester.

Revd Govender said: “The coronation of His Majesty the King is a historic moment in the life of our nation, a time to reflect on our history, celebrate who we are and look to our future.”

Local artist Lesley Thompson was there to capture the celebratory atmosphere of the event.

A clear sense of patriotism was felt across the cathedral as royal fans relishing this “once in a life time” occasion.

One guest, Jane Ransley, said: “I like being ceremonial. There’s nothing wrong with showing British ceremony and being part of it. I like being British.

“All the pomp and ceremony and the pageantry, we’re showing our Britishness.”

Another guest, Erika Kozlova, also said: “I quite like the Royal family. I think it unites people and a cause for celebration whether it’s a wedding or a royal baby, it’s something to be proud of – it’s our history.”
