Murder investigation launched with one man charged as police search for body of missing Cheetham Hill mum

A man has been charged with murder in relation to the disappearance of a Cheetham Hill mum-of-three.

Despite an arrest on suspicion of murder, until now, detectives had been treating the disappearance of 25-year-old Rania Alayed as a missing person inquiry. 

It is now a formal murder investigation as police continue to search for Rania’s body.

Rania was reported missing from home on Tuesday July 2, however it is believed she has not been seen alive since the start of June. 

Ahmed Khatib, 33, of Knutsford Road, Gorton, has been charged with murder and appeared before Manchester City Magistrates’ this afternoon.

A 34-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning. 

A 38-year old man, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, also remains in police custody for questioning. 

A man aged 64 and a woman aged 55, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been bailed until 19 August.
