Council leaders lay floral tributes in St Ann’s Square

Regional Manchester leaders paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in St Ann’s Square today.

The leader of Manchester City Council has paid tribute to the Queen and said “there is a sombre mood around town”.

Coun Bev Craig and the Lord Mayor of Manchester Donna Ludford lay flowers at the Richard Cobden statue in St Ann’s Square at lunchtime today to pay their respects.

And coun Craig said: “We’re encouraging people around the city to come and bring their tributes and we will look after the space.”

They were joined by members of public who laid floral tributes to the nation’s longest serving monarch who died aged 96 yesterday.
