ITV weather presenter Fred Talbot has been released on bail after being arrested yesterday during a police investigation into reports of historic sexual abuse at an Altrincham school.

The 63-year-old was arrested on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a child to commit acts of gross indecency at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Trafford.

He has been bailed until August 16 pending further enquiries.

The alleged offences relate to his time as a teacher at the school between the early 1970s to early 1980s while the four victims were pupils.

Detective Chief Inspector Sellars, said: “Since allegations were made to police in December we have made good progress with this investigation and with tracing and speaking to former pupils of Altrincham Grammar school.

“However, as part of our ongoing enquiry I am eager to trace anyone who attended the school between the early 1970s and 1980s, who feel they may have information to assist the police investigation.”

Talbot was brought up in Altrincham and began presenting on Granada Reports in 1984 and has spent the last few years as a roving reporter as well as continuing to present weather reports.

Anyone with information is asked to call Greater Manchester police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
