Woman, 20, dragged down secluded Audenshaw street and sexually assaulted

By Amy Betts

A woman was subjecting to a terrifying sexual assault in Audenshaw on Saturday when she was dragged into a secluded street and punched in the face by a man wearing a distinctive sovereign gold ring.

The 20-year-old was walking along St Anne’s Road at around 12.30am when a man on the opposite side of the street began to shout rude and suggestive comments toward her.

The woman then heard the man running behind her and was suddenly grabbed by the arm.

She was dragged back toward the road and hit in the face as she struggled with him but was able to break free and escape.

Detective Inspector John Charlton from GMP’s Tameside Division said: “This is an extremely worrying attack on a lone young woman in the early hours of this morning. As you can imagine she has been left devastated by what happened to her.

“We have a team of officers making enquiries into this attack and are appealing for any witnesses that may be able to help us identify this man and arrest him, to get in touch.”

The offender is described as being a slim build, around 5ft 11in and was wearing a black and grey camouflage jacket with the hood up.

He was also wearing a gold sovereign ring with what looked like a £1 coin on the top.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
