Manchester found to have the largest number of takeaways to local people

A new study has found that Manchester has the largest takeaway to people ratio of any city in the UK – a surprising 27 takeaway restaurants per 10,000 people.

Takeaway meals are a beloved and treasured part of our society – and it appears this is only growing according to search data, with 450,000 UK adults searching for ‘takeaways near me’ every month on average.

What makes a city a ‘takeaway capital’? – to find out more about the nation’s love for takeaways, Jackpotjoy collected some data about the UK cities with the greatest proportion of takeaways to local people.

The online gaming operator combined these findings with the volume of local people searching online for takeaways – to discover which city in the UK has the biggest love for ordering in.

In Jackpotjoy’s rating system, Manchester scored an impressive 76 out of 100 – having 27 takeaway restaurants per 10,000 people, and a total of 16 online takeaway searches per 10,000 people each month.

Norwich was the city crowned as the UK’s ‘takeaway capital’ scoring 92 out of 100 in the ranking system.

The city has 21 takeaway restaurants per 10,000 people – but a much larger love for ordering in, with 33 online takeaway searches per 10,000 people each month.

Leeds narrowly missed out on the top spot, scoring 90 points out of 100 in the Jackpotjoy ratings.

Jackpotjoy’s findings also revealed the nation’s favourite takeaway dishes to order, with fish and chips coming out on top having over 200,000 online searches for it each month.

Chinese and Indian came runners up, as the UK’s second and third most popular choice for ordering in.

Yet – despite fish and chips coming on top overall, there are still regional exceptions, with certain UK cities favouring other dishes.

Manchester, in fact, differed from the nation’s favourite – with people tending to choose an Indian takeout instead.
