Man, 26, rushed to hospital after being stabbed in stomach in Manchester city centre ‘altercation’

By Tim Hyde

A 26-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach and found collapsed on the pavement in Manchester city centre last weekend.

The victim was discovered at around 3.20am on Saturday, August 17, in Aytoun Street and was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary where his condition is believed to be serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Andy Buckthorpe, based at Bootle Street Police Station, said: “Clearly there has been some kind of altercation or attack but beyond that, we are unsure what has gone on.

“I would ask anyone who may have been walking along Aytoun Street prior to the man being found and believe they may have seen something suspicious to contact us.

“You may think that what you saw may be insignificant in our investigation but I can assure you, the information you supply could help us find who is responsible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 3221 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
