‘Her name’s Liz Truss but you can’t trust her’: Manchester reacts to PM resignation

Greater Manchester residents have reacted to Liz Truss’s resignation as prime minister after just 45 days in office.

Truss said in her resignation speech she had come to realise she “cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party”.

The announcement follows the crash of UK markets, losing two of her key ministers and the loss the confidence of many of her own MPs.

Mancunian Matters spoke to residents of Greater Manchester shortly after the news of the prime minister’s resignation, with Labour Councillor for Piccadilly Jon-Connor Lyons describing the Tory part as being in ‘utter chaos’, treating the country and Manchester with ‘absolute contempt’.

Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, has expressed his own concern in the Government’s approach, tweeting: ‘We can’t go on like this’.

The UK is expected to have a new prime minister by the end of next week.
