Police find boy, 12, who escaped rape in Manchester Arndale toilets – suspect in custody

A 12-year-old boy who narrowly escaped rape in the toilets of the Arndale Centre on Thursday has been found.

Police were called to the shopping complex at around 4.50pm after receiving a report that a man had attempted to rape the boy.

However the boy left the centre shortly before police arrived and efforts were made to trace the youngster.

A 68-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in police custody for questioning.

The boy is now being spoken to by specially trained officers and inquiries are on-going.
