Trans community member stalked and strangled on Manchester’s Canal Street – CCTV of suspect released

A CCTV image of a man thought to have stalked and strangled a member of the trans community in Canal Street has been released.

The incident happened on September 28 at around 4.45am when the 23-year-old victim wearing a light coloured dress, high heels and long blonde hair walked passed Via Fossa bar and noticed a man walking alongside.

When trying to get into an address, the offender grabbed the victim around the neck however he was disturbed by a group of friends who made the man hurriedly leave the scene.

Police Constable Tina Hodgson said: “We urge anyone who may recognise the man pictured to call us; this attack could have been far more serious had help not been at hand.

“Since this incident we have used the excellent links that we have with Manchester’s Gay Village to pursue this investigation. 

“We would also appeal to any other people who may have been victims of a similar incident to get in touch.”

The offender is described as being mixed race, in his 40s, of medium build and around 5ft 9in tall.
