By Danielle Wainwright

A man who ran through the streets of the Northern Quarter naked and is thought to have fallen to his death down a 50ft lift shaft on a construction site has been named as Andrew David Leeming.

The 23-year-old man from Stoke took his clothes off outside Adobe bar on August 16 and was seen trying to gain entry into Bluu bar and the Holiday Express.

He then climbed into a construction site on Smithfields, off Goadsby Street and a body, believed to be Mr Leeming, was found on August 19 by workers.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest is due to be opened and adjourned at Manchester Coroner’s Court.

Detective Inspector Brian Morley, based at North Manchester INPT, said: “This is a tragic case where a man has lost his life after apparently falling into a lift shaft and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

A post-mortem is due to take place.
