Pensioner suffers broken tooth and split lip after bottle launched into crowded dancefloor of Moss Side social club

By Danielle Wainwright

A pensioner was hit in the face by a bottle while dancing at a Moss Side social club in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

The 66-year-old woman was enjoying a night out with friends just after 1.30am at West Indian Social Club, when someone launched a bottle into the dancefloor which hit her in the face.

She suffered a deep cut to her lip that required stitches and a broken tooth as a result of the incident on April 21.

Detective Constable Dave Bigger said: “The victim’s enjoyable night out with friends was brought to an untimely and painful end when a bottle was indiscriminately thrown onto the crowded dance floor.

“She has suffered facial injuries as a result of this reckless act and, had the bottle been thrown with more force or struck and object and shattered, the consequences could have been far worse.

“Whoever is responsible has caused serious injuries to an innocent 66-year-old woman and I want anyone who was present and saw what happened or thinks they know who is responsible to call the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4223, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
