Manchester Giants produce best performance of the season to drown Plymouth

Head coach Jeff Jones hailed his team’s performance against BBL playoff contenders Plymouth Raiders as the best of the season so far, as his men cruised to a 102-77 win.

The Trafford Sportsdome side stretched their winning run to three games, taking them up to fourth in the league, as they seemed to have put early-season consistency issues to bed.

Clearly benefitting from the return of veteran centre Mike Bernard, star import Ingus Bankevics found room on the perimeter all evening and led the way with 20 points.

Head coach Jeff Jones said: “This was definitely our best performance of the season in what were difficult conditions and I’m really pleased with my players.

“The concentration dipped for a short period of the game but other than that it was great stuff and the players deserve a lot of credit.”

Guard Stefan Gill chipped in with 18 points and seven assists in an impressive team performance, which saw the home side lead throughout.

The Giants raced to a first-quarter lead of 31-15, and by the end of the third had opened up a commanding 18-point lead.

Coach Jones’ team had the look of a well-oiled machine as all 12 players played a part, each seamlessly fitting into the role asked of them.

As well as Bankevics and Gill, Callum Jones, Ben Eaves and David Watts each reached double-figure points tallies to help the Giants post a promising 5-3 record for the season.
