Non-league matters: Ashton boss confident of change in fortunes with Stocksbridge on horizon

By Arandeep Singh Dhillon & Tom Paterson

Ashton United joint-manager Steve Halford believes it is only a matter of time before the Hurst Cross club’s luck changes.

United host Stocksbridge Park Steels in the Evo-Stik Premier Division tomorrow as they seek a vital victory.

Halford’s side are now without a win in five but have been marred by a stroke of bad luck including a goal not being given last weekend when it appeared to cross the line.

“We are confident of a result. The lads might be getting a bit disheartened but it’s our job to pick them up from that,” he said.

“There won’t be any complacency, our lads know we need three points and we are confident of going on a decent run in the next few weeks.

“When down at the bottom a team has three shots and scores three but we have ten shots and score two, and get decisions against us, but that is football it swings in roundabouts but  I know if we keep working hard we will get these decisions and hard work will tell its tale.”

Bottom side Droylsden still await their first win of the campaign as they travel to Worksop Town.

Trafford travel to Barwell while FC United also face an away trip at Matlock Town.

In the First Division North, high-flyers Curzon Ashton host Kendal Town at the Tameside Stadium.

Salford City entertain Farsley FC at home and Mossley travel to Warrington Town.

In the Skrill Premier, Hyde take on Alfrerton Town at Ewen Fields on Saturday still waiting for their first league win.

The league’s bottom side went down 3-2 away at Woking last weekend, relinquishing a 2-0 lead with this result leaving them with only three points from 20 games.

In the Skrill North Altrincham are at home to Solihull Moors while league rivals Stockport County take on North Ferriby United at Edgeley Park.
