Moyes was born to be Red: Phil Neville says David has been ‘preparing all his life’ to be Manchester United boss

By Marios Papaloizou

David Moyes was destined to manage Manchester United, according to Phil Neville – whose former boss gave him the opportunity to ‘come home’.

After working under David Moyes at Everton, Neville was given the opportunity to return to United as part of the new manager’s backroom shake-up.

With Ryan Giggs also joining the Moyes revolution there is a growing presence of familiar faces aiding the transition into a new era.

Neville believes that the new manager is the ideal man to take up the reigns at Old Trafford.

“I was delighted when he got the job. I had worked so close to him and I knew more than anyone what it was like to be involved at this club,” Neville told the Daily Mail.

“I knew he would be blown away by the experience of being the United manager. He was born for this job”

Speaking to The Sun, Neville also said: “David has been preparing for this job all his life and whether it has been at Preston or Everton, he has, at the back of his mind, always been thinking that one day he wanted to manage the best.”

Neville believes that Moyes will have no problem speaking his mind to the star-studded dressing room at Old Trafford.

“He is from that part of Glasgow where they tell the truth and say it how it is,” he said.

“So if you are doing well he will tell you, if you are doing bad he will tell you – he won’t sugar-coat anything.

“But he has a humble, human side as well which most Glaswegians have.”

With such a long period away from Old Trafford Neville spoke of his joy at ‘coming home’.

“It seemed like this was fate in a way – David got the United job and I came back home,” said Neville.

“I can’t wait for the first game. I am like a kid at Christmas, everything is new, everything is brilliant and my life has totally changed.”
