Manchester United’s veteran defender Rio Ferdinand believes that the experience that permeates the Old Trafford squad will ease the transition into a new managerial era.
The departure of Sir Alex Ferguson after more than a quarter of a century at the club meant that any incoming manager would face a daunting challenge.
However, Ferdinand believes that new boss David Moyes has the luxury of being able to call on a vast amount of dressing room experience to help him through the test.
“I just look at it how I would be in the job. Would you lean on players that have been here for many years for the experience and ask questions to better yourself? Course you would so you expect that,” Ferdinand told Sky Sports News.
“But I think the manager’s fortunate he’s got someone like Giggsy among others like myself who have been here for many years and know the fabric of the club.
“If there’s anything we can pass on through experience to help him be a better manager and help us win trophies then fantastic.”
Ferdinand recognizes the difficulty of stepping into the shoes of a manager that is regarded as one of the best of all time and is hesitant to draw comparisons.
“The manager beforehand was an individual. There won’t be anyone like him, you can’t expect anyone to fill his boots exactly the same way,” he said.
“I don’t think you can draw comparison with them yet, we need to give the manager time.”
