Stockport have moved to sign journeyman Jamie Milligan until the end of the season after being released by Southport.

The 34-year-old midfielder began his career at Everton as a trainee and has since gone on to play for seven different clubs including Macclesfield, Hyde and Blackpool.

He revealed that his reason for joining The Hatters was all down to manager Alan Lord and captain Phil Jevons who spoke in ‘glowing terms’ about the club.

Speaking to County’s official website he said: “I'm looking forward to it. I've had about three weeks off after leaving Southport and I've been itching to get back into it.

“I've had a few offers and when I spoke to Alan and Phil they were both raving about the club so that was it. They both sold the club to me basically and said I'd love it.

“The changing room is good and there's a good set of young lads here who I like helping through the game with my experience.

“I've played at Stockport a few times and the atmosphere here has always been brilliant with the fans so I'm really looking forward to it.”

Milligan joins fellow new signings, striker Mark Battersby and goalkeeper Shane Lewis at Edgeley Park as County look to climb up the Skrill North table.
