Northern Quarter brawl: Watch up to 100 youths gather for ‘senseless’ fight

Police are appealing for information after up to 100 youths gathered at a violent brawl in the Northern Quarter.

Footage – obtained exclusively by MM – shows the carnage as the teens scrapped with each other on Dale Street in the city centre on Tuesday.

Local residents called 999 as the fight escalated at around 7:20pm, but the group – believed to be aged between 13 and 17 – had dispersed by the time officers arrived.

Police are now appealing for information and are urging witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Phil Spurgeon of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “We received a number of calls about the incident yesterday evening, which has clearly caused residents of the area and passers-by a great deal of concern and distress.

“We are in the very early stages of the investigation but we believe there could be anything between 30 and 100 young people involved.

“Violence will not be tolerated on the street of Greater Manchester and we will be looking to reprimand the senseless individuals who have caused this chaos.”

Despite the chaos, which had local residents extremely concerned, no injuries have been reported following the incident.

Police are now looking into eye witness accounts that several individuals involved were wearing school uniform.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 2146 of 20/09/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
