Schools and parents in Bury urged to be on full alert after man’s ‘inappropriate’ behaviour in area

By Glen Keogh

Bury children have been targeted by a man behaving suspiciously and inappropriately a disturbing six times in two weeks.

Schools in the area have been contacted by police to ensure that parents, teachers and children remain vigilant and report any other suspicious behaviour.

On each occasion, between April 25 and May 9, a man stopped his car and either spoke to children or acted in an inappropriate manner.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Barker said in all of the incidents, the offender is seen in or near a black car, which may be a Vauxhall Insignia.

“First and foremost, I want to say that we are determined to find anyone responsible for any inappropriate behaviour, but I must stress that we are keeping an open mind as to whether or not these incidents are linked,” he said.

“I would just ask that parents are extra vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police, but there is no need for anyone to change their routine.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8181 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
