Manchester Giants coach ‘knows basketball’ says old friend-cum-foe ahead of clash

Manchester Giants player-coach Yorick Williams has been praised by ex-teammate and Worcester Wolves forward Pavol Losonsky ahead of Sunday’s clash at the Lucozade Powerleague SportsDome.

After winning their first two games of the season, the Giants suffered two away defeats in three days last weekend against Surrey Scorchers (84-83) and then Glasgow Rocks (81-71).

Losonsky, who was a former team mate of Williams at Leicester Riders, believes the Giants still will be tough opposition, citing the ability of his former colleague as a major factor.

“Yorick has always been a good team-mate and friend to me,” Losonsky Said

“He is in different position now, being a coach of Giants and also having a brand new team. I think Giants have been playing well so far, and I expect the game in Manchester to be tough.

“Yorick knows basketball and will do everything in his power to prepare his team for us.”

Losonsky will be one of the biggest threats to the Giants this weekend, and he has the third highest number of two pointers in the league, 28, one more than Giants own Callum Jones.

Jones has been one of the Giants biggest successes so far this season alongside Olu Babalola, who has made the second highest number of three points in the league with 14.

One of those was this incredible shot against Surrey Scorchers last weekend.

Although the Giants will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s defeats, they lost their last two meetings against Worcester Wolves, but they did win the last game at the Lucozade Powerleague SportsDome, 93-83 in October 2014.

After a weekend off last week, Losonsky is eager to get back in action against the Giants this Sunday and ensure his said don’t taste defeat at the SportsDome again.

“It is still early in a season and with a pretty new team that we have, we have always something to work on.

“It is always good to get some time without games, just to work on stuff and improve, but I am sure that guys are already as anxious to play as I am.”
