Review: Ciaooo Pizzeria brings a taste of Naples to Manchester

If you’re looking for a taste of Italian sun here in rainy Manchester then Ciaooo Pizzeria is the perfect spot.

Based on the edge of the Northern Quarter, Ciaooo Pizzeria prides itself on serving traditional Neopolitan sourdough pizzas.

The pizzas they serve have a very distinct look, featuring a large and doughy crust.

Manager and owner Loredana Grigore explained their method: “Our Pizza is made from slow-rising sourdough and is baked at 450C for 60-90 seconds.

“The slow levitation and blast cooking process lock in the flour’s natural aroma and moisture giving a soft and easily digestible crust, as a result, the edge (cornicone) is excellent and shouldn’t be discarded.”

Indeed, the pizza’s soft and fluffy crust is one of the best parts, benefitting from not being at all dry and brittle.

The ‘Vesuvio’ pizza I had, topped with cherry tomatoes and rocket, was absolutely ripe with all manner of flavours. The cheese ratio was also right, neither being overly rich with it or too sparse.

There’s something for everyone on the menu, with plenty of options to satisfy both meat eaters and vegetarians alike.

After the pizza I was treated to a tiramisu, which was also fantastic. Much like the pizza, it was absolutely full of flavour, largely thanks to not being too creamy. As someone who is not normally a fan of the dessert, I feel I might have just been converted.

The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere as well. In spite of being relatively empty when I was there, it felt buzzing with life without being frantic.

The staff were enormously friendly throughout the evening and the service for every course and drinks was speedy.

So if you’re looking for a fresh pizza experience, Ciaooo Pizzeria is definitely a place to try.

Ciaooo Pizzeria is at 62-64 Swan St, Manchester, M4 5JU.

They are open from 5-10pm on Monday, 12-3pm and 5-10pm on Tuesday-Thursday, 12-3pm and 7-11pm on Friday and Saturday and 12-10pm on Sunday.
