‘We are playing better and better’: Manchester Giants’ Bankevics feeling positive

Manchester Giants’ Ingus Bankevics believes his side are constantly improving as they look to end their losing run against Plymouth University Raiders on Sunday.

Yorick Williams’ side have lost their last six games, and have only recorded one win since defeating the Raiders in their second game of the season.

Bankevics still has belief in his teammates however, and highlighted a few areas which can be improved upon to end their bad form.

“We are playing better and better with every game,” the Giants forward said.

“But we can’t play a whole game at one level, we have too many ups and downs.

“Sometimes we do things that we had not decided before the game and, of course, we are losing too many rebounds.”

As well as struggling with rebounds, Manchester Giants also commit the fewest turnovers-per-game in the BBL, 10.69

Defeats last week to Surrey Scorchers (96-82) and then Glasgow Rocks (99-86) compounded the Giants misery, but they will be hopeful ahead of this weekend’s contest.

The clash brings together the current bottom two clubs in the BBL, with both needing a win to keep their play-off hopes alive.

The Manchester side will be hoping that Plymouth will still be feeling the effects after Friday’s game against table-toppers Esh Group Eagles Newcastle.

As well as defeating the Raiders 95-89 earlier this season, Giants have also won the last five meetings between these clubs.

Despite their recent record against Plymouth, Bankevics is under no illusions of how tough a task the game will remain for the Giants.

“This team are now playing really well,” Latvian Bankevics admitted.

“They’ve changed a few players, changed coach and it will be a hard game, travelling to Plymouth and with the crowd they have.

“But we know their players and know their style. We need to stop their strengths and play our game.”
